Meet the child
In February, the parents of 5-year-old Sergei began to pay attention to atypical symptoms in the behavior and well-being of their son. Usually active and inquisitive, the kid began to abandon his favorite activities, there were alarming symptoms in the form of headaches, weakness, dizziness and nausea, the child began to complain of double vision. Such clinical manifestations may be a sign of a dangerous disease and should be the reason for immediate medical care visit. Unfortunately, brain tumor was diagnosed...

Medulloblastoma is an invasive tumor of the central nervous system in children, which develops in the posterior fossa, containing the brain stem and cerebellum - the tumor is insidious and fast-growing. It belongs to the formations of a high degree of malignancy, is able to grow quickly and aggressively destroying healthy brain tissue. The treatment is complex, includes in addition to surgical treatment and drugs, radiation therapy.

Surgical removal of the tumor was performed urgently in the Belarussian Research Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology, Borovlyany. According to the treatment plan, Seryozha is undergoing the first chemotherapy block. The next step after completing the second chemotherapy block will be radiation therapy to kill the remaining tumor cells.

Today, the child’s body is heavily weakened. Given the small age of the child, it is vitally important to choose the optimal method of radiation therapy. High aiming accuracy of the beam during proton therapy delivers higher targeted doses of radiation directly to affect the tumor minimizing radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissue which is especially important in the treatment of head tumors at children. And this means the opportunity to make the treatment as sparing as possible for small patients, significantly reduce the risks of side effects and avoid serious consequences and further problems in the development of the child.

Today, proton beam therapy is not available in the Republic of Belarus. Specialists of the Dr. Berezin Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Russia, are ready to accept the kid for treatment timely.

Dear benefactors, we need your help urgently to save Sergei's life!
