Parents' Letter (February 14, 2012)
Dear Chance Foundation!
I'll try to tell you about my son's life briefly. Georgy was born on May 2, 1997. He is a much longed-for child and has been making us happy since his very first days. Georgy's curiosity and intelligence has always made us proud. He always tried to achieve more. Georgy attended classes in Eastern martial arts and swam. In 2005 he enrolled in the Art school.
His health problems started when he turned 12, in 2009. Convulsions, pseudoepileptic seizures and slurred speech set in. Our neurologist recommended to hospitalize Georgy.
On February 10, 2010 the first embolisation of cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) was succesfully performed.
On September 1, 2010 the second embolisation was performed. Unfortunately, it resulted in permanent blindness in the left eye: during the operation part of the composite material got into the bloodflow and blocked the artery supplying the ophthalmic nerve. Now my child is disabled.
In December 2012 Georgy was examined and another embolisation was recommended, this time with ONYX substance. The previous operations were conducted with the use of HYSTACRYL — a substance which dissolves in a while, making the number of required follow-up operations uncertain. And with each embolisation the chances of complications increase. ONYX is not registered in the Republic of Belarus, though in Israel and Germany it has been successfully used for quite a long time now.
Despite all the hardships and painfulness of the treatment, Georgy is a good student. Actually, he is allowed not to attend school and be taught at home, but whenever he feels good, Georgy comes to classes. He leads an active life and likes to spend time with his friends.
Please, help my son!
Respectfully,
Elena Myndra
