Parents' Letter (January 10, 2012)
Dear Chance Foundation,
My name is Tatiana Stashevskaya. I am a hearing-impaired child's mother. My son has severe sensorineural hearing loss. I am turning to you for financial assistance. We need to buy new modern digital hearing aids at a Moscow center.
Our family consists of three people: myself, my husband Alexander Stashevskij and our son Denis. Two years ago we found out that our child has this problem. I quit my job to be able to bring Denis to a special daycare center everyday and attend classes taught by the instructor who told in details how to deal with the child at home and how to teach him. We have been attending the daycare for five years now. We were transferred to an integrated group from the one for hard of hearing kids. In an integrated group there are both hearing-impaired children (there are 4 of them including Denis) and those with normal hearing.
We purchased our first digital hearing aids ourselves at a Moscow RENES center, when Denis was 36 months. Both our instructor and we are satisfied with the results. Now Denis speech is quite well developed, and his hearing is not bad as well. In the integrated group he is learning to communicate with normal-hearing kids of his age. He goes to the swimming pool, attends various hobby-classes together with other children. Denis loves colouring and designing and building cars, space stations, space ships and other things with a construction set. Right now his favorite costruction set line is Pirates (treasure in a chest, cannons, flags, swords…). Just like other modern kids Denis is fond of computer games. We have selected several games for him and occasionally allow him to play for it also helps him develop and find common interests with the children of his age.
This year Denis is starting school. And we plan to try a regular school located not far from home. Denis has been using the same hearing-aids for five years now. They need being fixed more and more frequently. At Moscow Renes Center we were offered an advanced hearing aid model and recommended to buy AGIL PRO P since they have lots of important functions: automatically adjust loud sounds which is very important when the child is at school!
