Meet the child
Varvara is fighting cancer. A girl has abdominal mesothelioma, an epithelial malignant tumor that affects the peritoneal membrane, the tissue that surrounds the organs of the abdominal cavity (belly). During the first year after the diagnosis, the girl underwent 7 blocks of chemotherapy and 2 complicated surgeries. Thanks to the efforts of the surgeons, the tumor was completely removed. Further, for almost 4 years, every 2 weeks, Varvara came to the children's oncology center (Borovlyany) to administer a maintenance drug and to do monitor tests.
In March 2022, the disease returned. A council consisting of professors and associate professors of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology named after A.I. Aleksandrov, immunotherapy with Pembrolizumab was recommended - 4 blocks, followed by control, and sequencing as part of the FMA test, to determine an individual treatment plan in the future. With the help of the drug Pembrolizumab, doctors hope to achieve sustainable control of the disease.
