Darina is in her fifth year. This wonderful blue-eyed girl was growing up to everyone’s joy, went to kindergarten, and nothing foreshadowed trouble ... Once the girl complained of a pain in the tummy. Unfortunately, this symptom became a manifestation of an already developed severe cancer.
In October 2020, Darina was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the bladder. In addition to the damage of the bladder, the disease manifested itself as extensive metastases in various organs: foci were found in lungs, bones, vertebrae. The girl began treatment according to the protocol at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology. Two operations were performed: diagnostic and the removal of metastases, 7 blocks of severe chemotherapy and 16 irradiation in the area of metastatic lesion were performed.
The next stage of the treatment is compulsory radiation therapy. Taking into account the peculiarities of Darina's disease, proton therapy for the main lesion was recommended as radiation therapy. The proton therapy method is as gentle as possible for a small fragile organism oppressed by the aggressive treatment. The physical properties of protons make it possible to very precisely dose and direct the action of radiation, hardly affecting ordinary tissues. This significantly reduces the risk of negative consequences of therapy and tumor recurrence for the girl's weakened body.
